BC Wildland Firefighter Requirements

Minimum requirements for contract crews in BC are outlined below.

All firefighters must meet minimum physical fitness requirements through standardized testing. For information on the WFX-Fit test click here

Trainee Firefighter

  • S-100 Basic Fire Suppression (S-100A annual refresher)

  • S-185 Fire Entrapment and Avoidance

  • Occupational First Aid level 1 & Transport Endorsement

  • Less than 5 documented fireline days or 60 hours

  • Successfully complete the WFX-Fit test

    *Maximum 2 Trainee FFs per 5 person crew

Firefighter

  • S-100 Basic Fire Suppression (S-100A annual refresher)

  • S-185 Fire Entrapment and Avoidance

  • Occupational First Aid level 1 & Transport Endorsement

  • Successfully complete the WFX-Fit test

  • Minimum 5 documented fireline days or 60 hours

Crew Leader

  • S-100 Basic Fire Suppression (S-100A annual refresher)

  • S-185 Fire Entrapment and Avoidance

  • S-212 Fireline Communications

  • S-230 Crew Leader

  • S-235 Burn Operations

  • Incident Command System 100

  • Occupational First Aid level 1 & Transport Endorsement

  • Successfully complete the WFX-Fit test

  • Minimum 20 documented fireline days or 240 hours

    *1 CL for crews of 5 or less

Single Resource Leader

  • S-100 Basic Fire Suppression (S-100A annual refresher)

  • S-185 Fire Entrapment and Avoidance

  • S-211 Fire Weather

  • S-212 Fireline Communications

  • S-213 Heavy Equipment

  • S-230 Crew Leader

  • S-232 Portable Pumps

  • S-235 Burn Operations

  • S-241 Fire Assessment

  • Incident Command System 200

  • Occupational First Aid level 1 & Transport Endorsement

  • Successfully complete the WFX-Fit test

  • Minimum experience acting as CL on 5 deployments

    *1 Single Resource Leader for crews of 6-20

Power Saw Operator

  • Qualified as a Firefighter as detailed above

  • Valid Power Saw Operator (PSO) certificate

    *1 PSO per 5 person Type 2 crew

Danger Tree Assessor

  • Qualified as a Firefighter as detailed above

  • Valid Danger Tree Assessor - Wildfire Module certificate

    *1 DTA per 5 person Type 2 crew

First Aid Attendant

  • Qualified as a Firefighter as detailed above

  • Valid Occupational First Aid level 3 (OFA 3) certificate

    *1 OFA 3 per 5 person Type 2 crew
