Basic Fire Suppression and Safety

Course Description

S-100 training is delivered over 2 days totaling 16 hours. One classroom day (theory) and one field day (practical exercise). The forest industry uses the S-100 which complies with the WorkSafeBC regulation 26.3.1 Forestry operation fire fighting requiring anyone working in a wildfire environment to be trained annually to fight forest fires. Training requirements also include contracted services used by the BC Wildfire Service are required to hold a current ticket in either S-100 or S-100A annual online refresher. All participants must submit proof of previous S-100 certification to admin@frontierwildfire.com prior to taking the S-100A as per BCWS requirements to be eligible.

NOTE: S-100 alone does not meet the minimum requirement if you are seeking employment as a wildland firefighter. You must also have the S-185 which can be done in tandem over the same 2 days as the S-100 with an additional 3 hours of course work.

For annual re-certification take our online S-100A course. Certification expires each year.

Required Personal Protective Equipment

Students must wear the appropriate PPE listed below on the second day of the S-100. If you do not have your own PPE, Frontier has a limited supply that can be used. Please come prepared or let us know if you have any questions.

  • Hardhat 

  • Eye protection

  • Hearing protection

  • Leather Gloves

  • Work boots (6” Leather CSA approved)

  • Weather appropriate clothing
